In Their Shoes, by Jamie Windust ****

After finishing reading this book, I paused, took a moment and grabbed my phone to start writing down my thoughts about this book.

It’s a book full of emotion, proactivity and experiences - it powerfully highlights the challenges and issues non-binary have and do face on a daily basis.

This book was given to me by my fiancé for Christmas 2020, as a way to read another persons lived experiences as a non-binary individual.

Windust’s raw emotion shines through in this book - from experience to experience I felt as though I was walking alongside them; although definitely not as glam and stylish.

There were references to challenges that I was not able to relate to at the time of reading, but still managed to draw out of me a strong emotional response.

However, there many references where I had to stop for a minute and go “huh, that happened to me too - I know how that feels.”

“huh, that happened to me too - I know how that feels.”

Windust’s writing makes this book read so well - it gives it an authenticity and rawness that shines throughout the book.

As a community, our stories and learned experiences are the only way for us to create dialogue and change - so it is incredibly important that we continue to share and read each others journeys.

If you are looking to source material and stories from other non-binary individuals then this a good book with lots of recollections and experiences.
